Matrox RT2000 Real Time Editing Platform Empowers Kangoo Films

MONTREAL, Canada, (June 2, 2000) -- Matrox Video Products Group announced that Kangoo Films/Les Productions Kangoo, a Montreal project studio, is using the Matrox RT2000 realtime editing platform to produce a documentary on the cross-Atlantic Mini-Transat sailing race that occurs every two years from Concarneau, France to Guadeloupe, French West Indies. The project is a two-year endeavor following Damien De Pas - of the world-renown De Pas family of sailors - throughout his quest to sail in his first professional race. The first phase of the project was a half-hour piece distributed to television stations to help promote sponsorship. It combined De Pas' observations and interviews with Mini-Transat 1999 participants. RealVideo clips were also created for streaming on the De Pas web site.

"Video quality is a priority for our client because their goal is to distribute the documentary to television stations, stream it to the web, and eventually sell it worldwide on CD and DVD," says Francois Dompierre, co-owner of Kangoo Films. "The Matrox RT2000 lets us take the DV footage we film with our Canon XL-1 camera and transfer it directly to our editing system over the 1394 link in its native DV format. We avoid transcoding artifacts and maintain the highest video quality throughout our editing process."

"Editing in realtime allows us to try several different versions of each sequence - without having to render and wait to see if we like it or not - it's instantaneous," says Dompierre. "We save a lot of time because of all the realtime features our Matrox platform offers us, and with the ability to distribute to tape, stream to the web, CD and DVD in a few easy steps, the increased productivity has impressed our clients so much that they are coming back with new projects and are telling all their friends about us. We have never been so busy - all because of the RT2000!"
