Is my i810 PPGA
rig a Dinosaur? (compliments of Intel) I’m sure you can tell that, with a mobo only a few months old and already a dead end, I’m spitting chips that I didn’t make this rig using an old faithful 440BX and an Ultra66 or onboard add-on ATA66 driver. Am I annoyed at Intel!!? You bet! After all it is their own i810 chipset that drives this thing. At the very least, the minimum they could do is offer a reasonably priced socket-socket converter including voltage step-down. My vendor tells me that Intel’s message to its Australian dealers is that Celeron is dead, entry level machines here will be slower P3s at Celeron prices. If that’s right, then the socket-socket converters will need to be step down switchable to 1.65v or 1.5v. Over to you – Intel … are you capable of keeping the faith? Or maybe, it’s over to you Ulead – for the 3Dnow! Patch. What Next? We’ll also make mention of how the Pyro went in the old PC Chips desktop unit with a Celeron running 450 and just one paltry 13G drive. My 5 year old has had to surrender his PC in readiness to teach some creative arts students editing video on PC – I need all the rigs I can muster. Now, if I hear any jokes about the blind leading the blind, I’ll hit you with my white cane – if I can find you!!! We’ll also be looking at CG-Infinity, Video Paint and some of the 3rd party add-ons like Acid Music. Maybe see you then? David I.
