![]() Final Cut Pro Quick Tip #22 While LiveType is a huge bonus for generating cool typography in Final Cut Pro 4.0, most of us will still rely on Boris Calligraphy (aka Title 3D and Title Crawl) for most of our text needs. However, if you are upgrading from Final Cut Pro 3.0, and you use Title 3D, you’ll quickly discover that those free styles you downloaded a year or so ago no longer show up. Here’s how to fix it. The problem seems to arise from the fact that Calligraphy was a separate/optional install in Final Cut Pro 3.0, but is now a standard install in Final Cut Pro 4.0. Because of this, during the install, the Calligraphy program is over written and thus the link to the free styles set is not made in Final Cut Pro 4.0. [an error occurred while processing this directive]The good news is Final Cut Pro 4.0 installs as a separate program on your Mac, so when the FCP 4.0 install is complete you still have access to Final Cut Pro 3. Opening Title 3D in FCP3.0, you will find your styles are there and working. So how to fix this problem to get those wonderful free styles to show up in Final Cut Pro 4.0? You need to delete Title 3D and reinstall it. While it doesn’t sound like fun, it is a rather fast and simple procedure. Navigate on to the Library>Application Support folder on your primary drive. You should find two Boris FX folders; one called Boris FX (with the space) and one called BorisFX (without a space). Open both of these and delete the Title 3D and Title Crawl folders. You might as well delete the Text Styles folder if it is there.
Now install the Boris Calligraphy 1.1 updater from the Apple website http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=120118 When that is complete (should take all of two minutes), go the Boris FX site and download the Calligraphy Preset Style. http://borisfx.com/download/freebies.php Install that and you are good to go. ![]() HINT: I always make it a habit of backing up all downloaded support files for my application to keep from having to go back to websites to download and reinstall. Hopefully this Final Cut Pro Quick Tip has you smiling once again now that your Title 3D preset styles are back.
