The final special effects filter is the Star filter. This filter will create starbursts around bright objects, and is a great filter to use when shooting a romantic candle lit dinner.

Filters come in two varieties, plastic or glass. Which one should you choose? It really depends on your budget at the time. Plastic filters are generally cheaper than glass, but have the disadvantage of not being color fast and more prone to blemishes in the plastic. Glass filters on the other hand are going to be more pure, both in make up and the ability to retain their color longer. However they are often three times more expensive than plastic filters.
Hopefully this look at filters and how they might be used in video will help the next time you are looking for ways of improving your shoot.
