Vancouver Film School offers more than $200,000 in scholarships

VANCOUVER (Mar. 19, 2001) -- Vancouver Film School launched its 3rd annual competition awarding scholarships of more than $200,000 in value, Marty Hasselbach, Director of Operations for the post secondary school, announced. Open to permanent residents of Canada and the United States, the VFS Scholarship competition will award two full scholarships in each of the following programs: Film, Classical Animation (2D), New Media, 3D Animation & Digital Effects, Acting for Film & Television and Writing for Film & Television. Partial scholarships will be granted to the runners-up in each category.

"Vancouver Film School provides a real opportunity," says Hasselbach. "A student brings core talent into our programs and through hands-on production, we provide them with the skills and experience necessary to translate that talent into marketable skills to take into the workforce." He adds: "This scholarship campaign allows VFS to open the door to deserving individuals who might not have the ability to join us via the normal route. These scholarships have become an important part in helping some very creative, talented people gain the skills necessary to achieve their creative dreams, people who might not have been able to come to Vancouver Film School otherwise."

Entry deadline is Friday, June 1, 2001 at 5:00 p.m. Pacific Daylight Time. Applications, rules and regulations are available on the website (www.vfs.com) or by calling (604) 685-5808 or by emailing scholarship@vfs.com. Winners will be announced June 25, 2001.

Scholarships are awarded based on the comparative quality of applicants, talent, creativity, and commitment demonstrated in the contents of the application package and by the candidate's potential to succeed in the program. The decision of the VFS 2001 judging panel is final.

Established in 1987, Vancouver Film School offers intensive, hands-on programs in Film, Acting for Film & Television, Writing for Film & Television, Classical Animation, New Media, 3D Animation & Digital Effects, Make-Up for Film & Television and Maya. VFS provides students with a creative, disciplined and focused environment that is portfolio and production-based. Graduates of VFS are preferred by industry employers or become industry employers themselves.
